Wildwood Adventure Group
Winter & Spring 2025
Wildwood Adventure Group is an all-weather nature exploration community for children and their adult. We are here to promote, encourage, and support the development of a lifelong relationship between the learner and God’s creation, offering opportunities to take supported risks and fostering resilient, confident, independent, and creative learners. We use a range of child-centered processes to create a community for being, development, and learning.
Wildwood Adventure Group will meet from 10 am - 1 pm every Friday for two, 8-week terms at a nature preserve in Bloomington.
Winter Term: Jan 10, 17, 24, 31, Feb 7, 14, 21, 28
Spring Term: April 11, 18, 25, May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
Program Level: Beginner: Parking, bathrooms, and warming house are available on-site. Hiking terrain is entry-level.
What to expect from Wildwood Adventure Group
Each week we will embark on a “predictable hike”; hiking the same path, through all seasons. This gentle consistency allows both child and adult to experience a positive and predictable environment where they can better relate to others, regulate behavior & emotions, and learn more intellectually. Each session will also include an age-appropriate micro nature lesson and/or related activity, mixed-age nature play, as well as the opportunity to learn meaningful outdoor skills.
What makes this group unique?
Consistent and regular sessions are linked together through the process of planning, observation, adaptation, and review.
Engaging in all forms of weather, in community.
A place where both child and adult are counted as “learners” and both are offered opportunities to take supported risks.
Seasonal and age-appropriate micro nature lessons and/or related activities.
Outdoor skills.
Building a community with fellow homeschoolers and engaging together in God’s creation.
Is this group right for me?
Wildwood Adventure Group will meet outdoors in all seasons and all weather. Adventure Group is reserved for families whose oldest student is at least six years old. This is a parent-child program. It is not a drop-off. We ask that all families consider their capacity to show up consistently. Consistency in the group impacts the ability of children (and adults!) to connect with others and themselves. This is a learning community and a place for you to belong!
